November is a very heartwarming season. It is also the “Month of Thanksgiving” here at SVCA. Praise the Lord! Let us offer our thanksgiving to God through these 30 Bible passages - one passage a day. This year’s Thanksgiving Bible passages are inspired by our annual theme - "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Cor. 3:17b).” Let's submit to the Work of the Holy Spirit through these passages. Let’s experience the mighty power of the Holy Spirit in our corporate service and personal lives. He is able to deliver, anoint, heal, renew, and change us, so that we can live a Spirit-filled life full of freedom and abundance.

Month of Thanksgiving - Day 2

Ephesians 2:1-7
1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Paul in today's Scripture paints a vivid contrast between what we are by nature and what we can become by God's grace.

Paul first gives us a picture of the terrible spiritual condition of the unsaved person in Verses 1-3. We were spiritually dead in trespasses and sins, behaved like the sons of disobedience, and by nature children of wrath. We lived in this world without God and without hope, "but God" in His grace steps in to make salvation possible.

"But God!" - what a difference those two words make! This leads to the second part of Verses 4-7 that Paul tells us that God loved us, God gave us a new life in Christ, and God exalted us by making us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus! Just like the prayer of Hannah in 1 Samuel 2:8 "He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts up the beggar from the rubbish, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory"!

Amazing Grace! How can we not give thanks to God!
